Coming off of a three-in-three on the road last weekend, the Capitols embarked on another with the first of a pair against the U17s on Friday. Five different Caps found the back of the net in the contest as the Capitols picked up their 30th win of the season.
Scoring for Madison in the contest were Chris Delaney(11), Diego Johnson(4), Andrew Kuzma(28), James Hong(17), and Jack Brandt(12).
After an outstanding March, Berzins kicked off his April on the right note. Patriks Berzins stopped 25 of 27 shots sent his way in the victory. He has allowed three or less over each of his last six appearances and picked up wins in four of five starts in that stretch.
With his second period goal, James Hong collected his 99th point of his USHL career. Hong is having a career year with highs in both goals and assists. He now has the same amount of points this season that he had in the previous two combined.
Diego Johnson registered his first career multi-point game, scoring in the first and assisting on the Brandt third period tally, on Friday. Johnson joined the Capitols in January after being selected in the 2023 USHL Phase II Draft. Since joining the team, he has been a mainstay in the lineup.
Although he was unable to find the back of the net on Friday, Austin Burnevik recorded two assists in the win for Madison. The game marks the 20th time this season that the Minnesota native has recorded multiple points in one game. He extended his point streak to five games, collecting eight points over the five game span.
The Capitols return to face the same U17 squad on Saturday night for the team's annual Caps Carnival presented by TDS. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm, and tickets are still available at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
