Burnevik and Long Each Strike Twice, Caps Sweep Season Series With Cedar Rapids.

Madison improves to 31-23-4-2 on the season.

Austin Burnevik and Aiden Long each struck twice on Sunday for Madison as the Capitols completed the season series sweep of Cedar Rapids. Madison won the afternoon matinee by a score of 4-3 and the season series 4-0.

All four of Madison's goals came with a special teams unit on the ice with Burnevik's two tallies coming on the power play and Long's scoring one on the power play and one short handed. The Capitols went 3/5 on the man advantage on Sunday, which improves the power play to 22.3% on the season.

With the two-goal game, Austin Burnevik moves back into a tie for the league lead in goals with 40 on the season. Including Burnevik, there have only been eleven forty goal seasons in the USHL since the league moved to Tier I in the summer of 2002. The list of others is as follows: Kevin Roy (54, 11-12), Matt Coronato (48, 20-21), Daniil Tarasov (47, 11-12), Rem Pitlick (46, 15-16), Macklin Celebrini (46, 22-23), Brett Murray (41, 18-19), Matt Iacopelli (41, 13-14), Jack Harvey (40, 22-23), Anthony Del Gaizo (40, 17-18), Noah Powell (40, 23-24).

Austin Burnevik also registered his 70th point of the season with his 21st multi-point game of the season. There have only been 88 70-point seasons since the USHL went Tier I in 2002, and Burnevik is the first Capitols player to accomplish that point total since Todd Skoglund in the 1989-90 season.

The two-goal game for Aiden Long was his first multi-goal game in the USHL. He's registered nine goals on the season, all helping him cross the 20-point threshold. He is the tenth Capitols player to pick up 20 points this season. His power play goal and his short handed goal were both the second of the season for him in that respective category on the season.

Patriks Berzins stopped 29 of 32 shots on goal in the win for Madison as he collected his seventh win since the end of February. Berzins has only allowed more than three goals once in that stretch.

With Austin Burnevik's first goal of the night, James Hong collected his 100th career USHL point. He becomes the 123rd player in the USHL's Tier I era to hit the century mark in a career joining elite company.

One final regular season home game will take place on Friday, April 12th, as it's a Dollar Beer Night presented by Coors Light. It's the last series of the season against Green Bay as the two teams wrap up the Wisconsin Cheese Cup presented by Klondike Cheese. Tickets are still available at tickets.madcapshockey.com.
