The Tri-City Storm visited Bob Suter's LEGACY20 Arena on Friday night for the first time this season. This was the first of two meetings between the two teams this weekend. Coming into Friday, Tri-City sat in fourth place in the Western Conference standings; Madison was fifth in the East.
Looking to extend their winning streak to seven, the Capitols opened the scoring in this one. Gustavs Griva tallied his 12th goal of the year, assisted by Harvard commit Michael Tang, to take the 1-0 advantage midway through the first period. Following Griva's goal, Will Dosan was able to get on the board, extending the Capitols' lead to two.
The two Capitols goals in the first period were the only goals of the contest. Caleb Heil shut out the Storm, denying all 18 shots sent his way. Earning his third shutout of the year, Heil is now tied for second for most shutouts in the USHL this season. Heil has been between the pipes for six of the last seven Capitols wins.
