Haralds Egle to Represent Capitols at Olympics

Former Madison Capitols forward Haralds Egle is set to make his Olympic debut for Latvia. He will be one of 46 former USHL players to compete in Milan, Italy, in the 2026 Winter Olympics.  The 29-year-old is a native of Liepaja, Latvia, and skated for the Capitols in 78 games from 2014 to 2016. Egle has represented Latvia nine times, including appearances at the World Junior Championship, World Selects Invitational, European Youth Olympic Festival, and Men's World Cup.

Egle led Madison with 44 points during the 2014-15 season, including 26 assists and three game-winning goals. He appeared in 24 games the following year and recorded 19 points before finishing the 2015-16 season with the Chicago Steel. Egle is tied for fifth all time in the Capitols' Tier I era with 10 career power-play goals.

Egle went on to play his collegiate hockey at Clarkson University from 2016 to 2019. He played in 135 games, recording 105 points. As a junior, Egle was named a Second Team All-ECAC Hockey All-Star and earned Third Team All-ECAC Hockey All-Star honors as a senior.

Following his four seasons at Clarkson, Egle skated in 55 games with the Winnipeg Jets' AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, from 2020 to 2022. Since then, Egle has played for a handful of teams overseas and is currently playing for HC Energie Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. He has appeared in 40 games this season, tallying 22 points, including 14 assists.

Latvia is set to meet Team USA in the first game of the preliminary round, in a game that will have a plethora of former USHL players, including Ralfs Freibergs and Zemgus Girgensons, who will skate alongside Egle for Latvia. Team USA features 21 players with USHL ties, including Auston Matthews, Matthew Tkachuk, and Jack Hughes. Puck drop is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 12, at 2:10 p.m. Central time. The game will air on USA Network and stream on Peacock.
